Chrysler Building

Chrysler Building represents the war for the tallest building in the world at its time of construction. Patron Walter Chrysler wanted the tallest building in the sky and architect William Van Alen was enlisted to build it. Van Alen competed with Harold Severance who was building the Manhattan Company Building. They went back and forth updating their plans mid-construction to grow their towers taller. The desperation filled the news at the time where the Chrysler Building was eventually victorious at 925 feet only to be surpassed four years later by the dark horse, the Empire State Building.
